Water is the most essential and abundant substance in the body. The human body is made up of 75% water and the brain is 85% water. The human body can go over a month without food, but only a few short days without water.
How Do You Get Dehydrated?
· Through activities of daily living, sweating, exercise, diarrhea, the altitude and temperature.
· Many people treat dehydration with soda, starving the body of what it needs.
· The average American consumes over 600 cans of soda per year.
· Caffeine causes the kidneys to secrete more water from the body than there is water in the beverage.

How Do You Know if You Are Dehydrated?
· Some side effects that are associated with dehydration include stress, headaches, high blood pressure, weight gain, back pain and more.
· A dry mouth is typically the last sign of dehydration.
· If you are thirsty, this means your cells are already dehydrated.
· A slightly dehydrated body produces yellow urine.
· A severely dehydrated body produces orange or dark colored urine.
· A well-hydrated body produces colorless urine.
How Much Water Should I Drink?
· You should drink half of your body weight in ounces daily. If you weigh 160 pounds, you should be drinking 80 ounces equals 10 cups of water daily.
· Start drinking water first thing in the morning, before you get out of bed.
· Avoid going more than 15 to 20 minutes without sipping on water.
· Always drink water 30 minutes before eating to help support the digestive process. Drinking in advance will also help to fill you up.
A Few Simple and Fun Tips:
· Too many people drink water too late in the evening and it disrupts your sleep by having to wake up to go to the bathroom. Drink mostly in the morning and during the early part of the day, and little to none at night to support unnecessary interruption rest.
· Add pieces of fruit, cucumber, lemon, or lime to your water through out the day.
· Keep a fresh salad in the refrigerator so you always have one ready to eat.
· Have a fresh smoothie or a glass of vegetable juice. This can radically help to satisfy sweet cravings, especially on warmer days.
· Drink an ounce or two of wheatgrass daily. Wheatgrass is rich in Vitamins A, B, C, and E; Minerals, Amino Acids, Enzymes, and helps to support thyroid functioning.
